Organizations & Users
Organizations are the top-level entity in Ferry representing your company or team of Users. When you create a Ferry account you can give your Organization a name, and the user creating the account is the owner of the Organization.
Users belong to an Organization. Currently there are two permission types: Owner and Viewer. Owners can access all resources within an Organization with read-write permissions; Viewers have read-only access. We’ll be further building out permission functionality over time.
You can access any of the Organizations you belong to in the top right drop-down selector on the Ferry application.
You are able to invite other Ferry users to your organization as well as external email addresses (i.e. consultants, system integrators) as required.
Each Organization can be linked to many Cloud Accounts (both AWS and Azure). To learn how to connect your Cloud Accounts to Ferry, follow the link here (opens in a new tab) for AWS and here (opens in a new tab) for Azure.
One of the difficult aspects of edge deployments that Ferry handles for you is the creation & management of certificates. These provide your Organizations, Workspaces, Node Groups and devices (i.e. Nodes) with sufficient permissions for their respective operations. Ferry uses X.509 certificates throughout, and creates chains of trust between your certificates for added security. You can see all the certificates that are provisioned for your Ferry organization on the Certificates tab in the Organization screen.
